Bubble Gum Self Portraits
Many artists in our history have created self portraits. A self portrait is a picture you make of yourself. Have you ever done that before? I challenge you to make a big self portrait. The medium you choose to use is all up to you. Once you're finished, you can add a blown up balloon to your lips. It will make it look like you were blowing a bubble!!! Have fun! Share your projects with me!
Here are some examples of what your bubble gum self portrait could look like. If you remember what we learned about how to draw a face in 1st grade, use that information here. I bet your self portraits will look even better than these pictures! ;)
Mary Blair's colorful city scapes
I truly don't know the answer to this... but I sure think her artwork reminds me of this architecture!

This is a lesson that I have been pulling together for my 2nd graders for over a year now. I was so excited to teach it this spring. I'm still so sad I didn't get to. See if you can try this out and see what you can come up with. Hit the button above, it will take you to my teaching website. Read about Mary Blair. She is the artist that was commissioned by Walt Disney to create "It's a Small World" at Disney World. It's my favorite ride in all of Magic Kingdom! See if you can create your own cityscape like Mary Blair's. Also watch the video of an awesome book that was written by her.

Read the book Where the Wild Things Are and think about what your monster would look like while reading. I have provided a video read along if you do not have the book at home. This story has many different types of features and textures on the monsters. Texture is how something feels when it is touched, and it can be implied, which means you visually see texture but it is smooth to touch. The book has implied texture. Did you notice the different types of monsters? After you read the book and think about what your monster would look like, discuss with your family what type of features and textures your monster would have. Then, you can start making your own monster!
