"The Scream"
We are going to study one of the most recognized paintings that is very misunderstood by many people. No one understands why this "man" is screaming in the painting. I want to tell you, HE'S NOT SCARY, AND HE'S NOT REALLY SCREAMING.......
The artist that painted this was named Edvard Munch is from Oslo, Norway. He was first inspired by his mom who was an artist. She constantly encouraged him to create art that expressed his feelings. Later in life, he studied art in Paris and Germany. It was here he found his own style of painting while he was trying to paint his emotions. He was interested in trying to get his paintings to bring emotions while looking at his art. He is one of very few artists that got to enjoy his fame while he was still alive.

When we look at this painting there are many things you should notice and question. First we see that thick red sky. Why is that sky so red? What is "he" screaming about? Who are those two people in the background? I see a very impressionistic way of painting.... it has lots of emotions in the brushstrokes. I see the water and two boats. It feels strange when I look at it. Why is it so dark. And, WHY IS THAT GUY SCREAMING?
LET'S SEE IF WE CAN ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS FROM THIS FOLLOWING INFO.......
He made five pieces in his series that was about The Scream. First was a crayon sketch, next was the famous painting, made of tempera paint, the third an oil pastel drawing, the final painting and then the lithograph.
