Grant Wood
February 13, 1891 to February 13, 1942
Grant Wood was an American painter and was the one how invented a new kind of art called Regionalism. He was best known for his paintings depicting the rural American Midwest. He is particularly well known for his painting called, American Gothic, which has become an iconic example of early 20th-century American art. He also made great pictures of the landscapes that he saw around him. He is probably the most famous IOWAN artist to date. He was born in Anamosa, Iowa and died in Iowa City, Iowa. |
You have some choices to make for this project. You could concentrate on the American Gothic and make a Parody (a funny version) of the American Gothic. OR.... You can make a version of his landscapes.
In American Gothic was painted by Grant Wood in 1930. It currently is kept at the Art Institute of Chicago. Itwas meant to look like an earlier generation by featuring a farmer and his daughter posed stiffly and dressed as if they were, as the artist put it, “from my old family album.” They stand outside of their home, built in an 1880s style known as Carpenter Gothic.
Do you know who these people really are to Grant Wood??? They aren't really a man and his wife at all!!!! What's your guess?
