Arcimboldo portraits:
Arcimbolodo was an interesting guy... he created these portraits out of fruits and vegetables. Aren't they funny?!? I wondered if you could create portraits out of found objects you have in your house? You can then photograph them and send me your picture. I'd love to see them!
Wayne Thiebaud was an American Painter and Printmaker. He is well-known for his colorful paintings of pies, lipsticks, paint cans, ice cream cones, pastries, and hot dogs. Thiebaud uses thick paint and exaggerated colors to capture the objects. He decided to go back to school to study art education and began his career as an art teacher and an artist in California.
Your challenge this week is to create a still life of food! A still life is a painting or drawing of objects that are close around you. For example, I could draw the delicious cookies that are on my kitchen counter. Feel free to use paint, oil pastels, crayons, or whatever you can find around your house!
Fun fact: Wayne Thiebaud is turning 100 years old in November!

May is finally here and flowers are blooming. Your challenge this week is to create a three dimensional waterlily that is inspired by Claude Monet. Monet was famously known as an Impressionist Artist. This means that the artist captures the movement and life of what they saw, and it is seen as if it was happening now. Monet was most famous for his paintings in his backyard, which had waterlilies. His paintings of the waterlilies were over six feet tall and nearly 300 feet long! It was his biggest project and spent the last ten years of his life working on this painting. Monet had a huge influence on other artist and now it is your turn to create your impression of a waterlily. Watch the video of a your for one of his painting to see his waterlilies! The second video is a how to on making a waterlily. This could be a Mother's Day present for your mom! |

Google Cardboard is a fun VR that is made out of cardboard. I have attached some links and apps you can use for Virtual Reality. I am challenging you to tour art museums or tour a jungle. After you tour a jungle, I would like you to create your own jungle or pick out an animal you saw to recreate. Henri Rousseau is a famous artist that would look at magazines to get ideas for painting lions and tigers, oh my! If you do not have a VR, that is okay! There is a link provided that does not require a VR. Send a picture of your jungle creation! I attached my artwork inspired by Henri Rousseau.

This is one of my very favorite things to teach you about in the spring, 3rd graders. I would love for you to learn as much as you can about this... and maybe I can still teach you more when we are together. I would love for you to create your own Starry Night. Make it a place you LIKE to go, or a place you WANT to go, and make a drawing of your own Starry Night. Send me a pic... I can't wait to see it!
