Pop Up Architecture
Do you know what the word Architecture means? It's a different kind of art than what we've studied so far this year. Architecture is buildings and other physical structures. The art and science of designing buildings and (some) nonbuilding structures. What kind of different buildings or structures can you think of? A house, skyscraper, castle, and barn are only a few.
Before a building is even built, there has to be an architect that designs it. Even way back when castles were made, there was a person that knew how to make the parts and pieces of that castle to make it all come together. Then, after the plans are made, there is another artist that gets to work... and that's the actual builder(s). It's pretty amazing, isn't it?

The first thing we need to do is to draw our building, like an architect does. It's like you are going to be an engineer for building that house. Architect and House Engineer are synonyms, they mean the same thing. What kind of building are you going to design? Get a practice paper and draw....
Here are a few samples:
Day 2:
Now we are going to use our drawing to create our building out of paper. We will use our big paper for the background, the sky and ground, and we will pop your house out of the middle of the paper.
How to make the background with the "pop out".....
1. Fold paper in half
2. Mark two lines on either side of the half way mark of this folded paper. Cut about 2 inches in, on both marks.
3. Open your paper and push that cut area into the inside of your folded paper.
4. Crease the paper at the fold, having the piece jet out into the "inside" of the folded paper.
5. Fold the paper together so that you crease the top and the bottom of the "pop out" part.
6. Go to the "outside" and make sure all of the folds are good and tight.
This is the final look. You will glue your construction paper house (that is flat) onto this flap to make it pop out at you.
