4th Grade
Realistic vs Abstract vs Non Objective
(You are going to create a series of drawings or collages of an animal that you chose (all three will be of the same ONE animal). One will be a realistic drawing or collage, another will be an abstract drawing or collage and the final will be a non-objective drawing or collage. You will then display them side by side on one piece of construction paper that is 12 inches by 18 inches. Each drawing or collage will be 6 inches by 12 inches. If you chose to do drawings, you may use any of the supplies you have in your art box (crayons, colored pencils or markers). OR, you can chose to do a collage. The paper for your collage will be found in your own ziplock baggie. You will not get any more paper than that. This is your challenge. You get to choose how you are going to do it all. The only thing is... I expect to see one that is done realistically, one that is done abstractly and one that is non-objective.
** PICK ONE OF THESE THREE TO DO **
REALISTIC:Realistic art represents familiar things in a way that is accurate or true to life.
|
ABSTRACT:Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. When I look at an abstract piece, I can tell what it's about. This is clearly a giraffe. But, the color, or the shapes, aren't realistic. Obviously, a giraffe isn't rainbow colors.
|
NON OBJECTIVE:Nonobjective art is another way to refer to Abstract art. The artwork does not represent or depict a person, place or thing in the natural world. When I look at this kind of abstract art, I can't tell what it's a picture of. The artist might very well know this is a giraffe, but as the observer, I will not know what it is. Once you tell me it's a giraffe, I could start to see the mouth, or the ears and maybe even a tree in the background. But, without that knowledge, I have no idea what it is.

Here are a few examples of what your work will look like in the end:
