Tints and Shades
Some of the most basic ways to create art is to look at the Elements and Principals of Art. This isn't something that I stress much, but it IS something that I consider when I teach you things in the art room. Now that you are getting older, you might understand them better and hear them come up within your learning.

We are going to concentrate on the Element of VALUE for this project. You are going to learn about Tints and Shades of a color. This is what will drive your artwork for this project.
Some vocabulary words you need to know for this project include:
Hue: Hue is the true color. Ex: red, orange, yellow….
Value: Value is how light or dark the hue (color) is.
Tint: Tint is a hue with white added to it. Ex: Red and White makes pink.
Shade: Shade is a hue with black added to it. Ex: Blue and Black makes navy blue.

Step 1: Fill in the Tints and Shades Worksheet
|
Your Challenge: You will be taking an image from your google drawing paper that you have. You will draw one of the images (no letters or numbers allowed) out onto 12x18 white paper, make sure you are adding a background that fits the image. It needs to be drawn big enough that you can paint it in. You will then pick one hue (it can be different than the one you chose for your worksheet) to create tints and shades of and paint your image in using only the one hue with it's tints and shades.
