Kindergarten
Bugs, Insects and Butterflies
using Crayola Model Magic
Have you noticed all of the bugs that our outside now that the weather has warmed up? I have! There are so many different ones, aren't there?!
We are going to make some bugs out of a new medium that we usually don't get to use at school. It's called Crayola Model Magic. It is an air dry clay. That means that once you make your bug, then it will dry in the air and become hard. When you are working with it, it kind of feels like squishy marshmallows. You can add color to it with just regular markers. You can scribble a little color on it and then mix it in. Or, you can wait and color it with markers after you have your bug built. You can do it either way, or both ways! I will give you some googly eyes to put on your bug too. We also have some pipe cleaners to use for things like legs or antennas if you want them.
Think about the color wheel when you are mixing colors.
Don't forget, when you mix colors that are across from each other on the color wheel, you will get brown. You want to mix colors that are CLOSE to each other on the color wheel for it to work well!
When you get started, break your model magic into small pieces, so you don't use it all up at once. You don't have a lot, so you want to start small and add on.
Here are some examples of what you could make. But, you can also make up your own bug!
Your bugs will dry in the air in about a day. But, sometimes the bottom side of it doesn't get dry, so you might have to flip it over to let the other side dry too. After it's dried, you can add more details to it using markers. Be careful, things can break on it, or pop off. If this happens, you can use Elmer's white glue to glue it back on.
