Clay Owl
We are going to get to use a new medium that you've likely never used before. Or, if you have, it wasn't at school! It's called Crayola Model Magic. It's a form of air dry clay. It feels a little bit like marshmallows when you are using it. It will dry in about 24 hours and then become hard. It starts it's drying out process soon after you open the package and start using it. So, we will finish this project today. There are no exceptions to that.
Let's research what Owls look like. A good artist has to research and figure things out to be able to make them properly.
Take out some planning paper and make a few quick drawings of an owl. Pay attention to the details. Do they have big eyes? Or small eyes? What's on the top of their heads? What do their feathers look like? you have 5 minutes to complete your research.
Now we are ready to start making our owl.
You can use these videos for instructions. But, we (at school) will be using markers to add color. If you use markers on your clay before you put texture on it... you can mix it in and make that whole clay take on a color. Or, color it when you are finished. Or, both! |

Your owl will dry in the air in about a day. But, sometimes the bottom side of it doesn't get dry, so you might have to flip it over to let the other side dry too. After it's dried, you can add more details to it using markers. Be careful, things can break on it, or pop off. If this happens, you can use Elmer's white glue to glue it back on.
